Tentative opening February 2021

Hello Maple Lawn Parents,

Thank you for your patience! We have been working with the School District to determine steps we need to take to open Maple Lawn in the fall while keeping the main functions of the preschool as normal as possible. The School District has been extremely supportive and helpful during this difficult situation. To open the preschool, we must follow extensive requirements as outlined by the Department of Education and the Oregon Healthy Authority. You can read through them by clicking on this link provided at the bottom of the letter. The requirements aim to provide a safe environment for the children and staff; and as a School District partner, we must follow these guidelines to comply with insurance.

The Maple Lawn teachers have been thinking a lot about what would be best for the children, while keeping the integrity of the program. We have been going through the extensive guidelines trying to figure out how we could adjust our normal model to fit within the requirements. The Maple Lawn mission is to provide a safe and creative environment that fosters individual growth, social development, and a love of learning in young children.  The mission is centered around social development and safety.

With this in mind, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to keep Maple Lawn closed in the fall.  We feel the required changes would be counterproductive to children’s development at this young age. We take pride in our program being meaningful, valued, and having both social and educational outcomes.  Sadly, an altered format or hybrid model does not meet our mission. We understand how difficult this will be for families, our students, and our teachers but our priority is to keep the children and staff safe and healthy.

We will continue to keep you updated as we move toward the new year.  We hope February will come with a more moderate set of requirements where we can still achieve our mission.
